Her scientific interests include Svan folk music, the problem of genre in Georgian musical folklore, and issues of contemporary performance of traditional music. Maka Khardziani has participated in various local and international scientific forums; She is an author of several scientific works and monographs, and a compiler of scientific and self-study collections.
